pencil on paper (Arches) drawing – image size: 30” wide x 22” high (ORIGINAL SOLD)

The title is a play on the word and the physicality of the drawing itself. If you turn this drawing on each side, and upside down, you will see the same face looking at you. (All ways) It also is a memorial – to commemorate some friends and family in my life who passed on but who I’ll remember and want noted for “always”. There are names in the trees and bark, and there is even a tiny little poem in the grass. Good luck finding it. I can only when looking at the original.

It says: “The purpose of love and art are the same – to stop the clock.”

(You can see the original framed drawing on the wall behind me at one of my solo shows a few years ago.)

Kind of reminds me of Bev Doolittle. Awesome!

  • Cynthia Lund T... replied

    Hello William,

I’m helplessly behind in my replies – please pardon.
I must check out Bev Doolittle. I’ve never heard.
When I was a child I was fascinated by a film I saw (I can’t even recall the title now), of this magical woods where suddenly you could see faces in the trees and they were all alive and moving.

I wanted to sort of capture some of that in this.

    Thank you!
    C.

Loving your imagination and the skill you use to transform it to paper, but you must stop teasing us by telling us there is a poem in the grass. Please put us out of our misery and reveal the hidden words!

  • Cynthia Lund T... replied

    Hi Natsky!

Please pardon my very late reply. I had been doing them wrong and missed a number of them. So today I write with heartfelt contrition.

    THANK YOU first and foremost.
And I did find the poem – there might be two in there – I wish I had the original around and I could be sure – but anyway, in the lower left area in the grass one is there for sure:

“The purpose of love and art are the same – to stop the clock.”

    My best to you…
    C.

I’ve been combing through (for hours) my collection of art catalogs and history books trying to find parallel to this amazing body of work. It’s difficult to find anything that comes close… I’m drawn more frequently to surrealist photography… those artists who, like you, seem to have imagined for themselves an entirely new way of existing in an entirely strange and wonderful world.

  • Cynthia Lund T... replied 29 days ago

Oh my. I really have made you delinquent.
I am flattered beyond belief. Now I want to look up some surrealist photographers. I live under a rock. That must be the key. hahaha! (THANK YOU)
