"Open REALLY Wide" (Mnt. Top Removal) by

It’s not a pretty picture. Ironically, “Open REALLY Wide” is what is on the McDonald’s sign just below the sight of the controversial mountain top removal in Pike Co. of Eastern Kentucky. The justification for mountain top removal in these ancient Appalachian Mnts is that it can be put back just as it was and it does no irreparable harm to the environment, land or wildlife. Hmmm?
“In America today you can murder land for private profit. You can leave the corpse for all to see, and nobody calls the cops.” ~Paul Brooks, The Pursuit of Wilderness, 1971

beautiful, with all the greens suddenly appear the bright colors

  • Yeah, it’s hard to believe that there used to be a mountain there at one time. I wish I could have gotten a before picture before they leveled this mountain.
