This young German Shepherd, named Fuzzy, was just over two when I was commissioned to do this portrait. He was a scary dog that was tearing at the fence to get to us but he was oddly afraid of my camera. When I got it out he ran and hid! It took a zoom lens to photograph him for this portrait. This is a graphite sketch on 11″ × 14″ 400series medium 80lb. drawing paper and took me one evening to do. I felt he looked exceptionally regal in the photograph that I used for inspiration to create this commission.

Created by Linda Costello Hinchey of SW Virginia. This commission is used for our poster/print and is exclusively from the fine art studios of CHSTUDIOS.NET from a portrait commission.

I saw a glimmering vision
It took my breath away
’twas the silhouette of a shepherd
More regal than words can say

The beams of light they danced
on a coat of endless black
A vision of perfection
Atop an iron back

He stood there like a statue
for all the world to see
What a vision of perfection
The German shepherd can be

The look of a noble prince
Lord of all he surveys
Confident in himself
Eyes fixed in aristocratic gaze

Never shall I forget
The vision I saw that day
Of the mighty shepherd
Who took my breath away

A Vision

All animals are frightened of cameras, probulary because it is a thing we shouldn’t have….Cool quick drawing, love the ears.

  • Thank you, Nawroski! Yes, I think many are frightened of cameras so I like to use my big lens! lol Especially if he wants to eat me! lol He is a real beauty, though.
