Memories
A combination of fractal art and painting.
My mother died last week, and I have many good memories of her. She had dementia and her memory wasn’t what it should have been. I wrote this to her a couple of years ago on Mothers day…about some of my memories of her. I hope you like it.
“Dear Mum,
I just wanted to write and tell you how precious you are to me. When I think about growing up I always remember feeling safe and loved….apart from the occasions when I overstepped the mark and it was safer to run:-) Thank you…for not catching me.
I have memories of the lovely tasty dinners that you cooked us and the excitement and anticipation of Christmas…especially coming downstairs and spotting the presents stacked on top of the cupboard, way out of our reach. I can remember the little wax candles that were held on to the Christmas tree with peg like clasps. They looked so lovely when they were lit. Thank you.
I remember waking up in the morning to the lovely glow in my bedroom after it had snowed and I longed to go outside in it. You always made sure that I was well rugged up and warm. Thank you.
I can remember going for long bike rides and walks in the country…picking bluebells and primroses, and at other times dandelions and dock leaves to feed our pet rabbits with. Some of my fondest memories are of the beautiful nature that we grew up surrounded by. For leaving your beloved London, so that we children could grow up in the country, I want to say, Thank you.
Most of all, thank you Mum for loving Dad. The very best thing that parents can give their children is a loving family environment to grow up in. You certainly did that. I have been very blessed to have you as my Mum and I love you very much.”
I was so glad to find that card while clearing out her room last week.
I think it’s very important to tell the people you love that you appreciate them and care for them while they’re alive….. It’s way too late after they’re gone.

With the golden and blue colours you encompass both the joy and the tears of your memories. And the joy is more than the tears. Well done.

With a combination of sheer creative skill and a computer you are producing truly unique works of art Chris. This work show that the medium had become of age – when it just can’t be produced by hand. A great piece of work.

Chris, a gorgeous piece of work…...........and writing. Part of our grief process is to remember the good, and to appreciate how we were loved and nurtured. I know your mom is smiling down on you, knows that she was appreciated, well loved, and that she did a most excellent job in the family and motherhood role. A wonderful and loving tribute not only to your mom but to the woman she helped to mold. You should both be proud.

Chris, My very favourite colour combination is rich earths and blues, and your image has these in spades.
Thank you for sharing such private and intimate memories – through these we get to know one another, and to empathesize with your place in the world today.
I admire your artistic taste and skill, and aspire to maybe one day achieving something like this as I explore the exciting world of Fractals. For me this is just beginning.
In appreciation, Keith

Wow! Fantastic work Chris. My heart goes out to you for the loss of your mother. I lost my parents many years ago and have dealt with the pain that comes with separation. Beautiful tribute to your mother Chris.
