Middle spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius) looking up to the birdfeeder on the terrace of my workplace

The institute where I work here in Darmstadt (Julius Kühn-Institute for Biological Control) sits between many old trees, small woodlands and the terrace here is surrounded by big shrubs – a paradise for birds. Since I installed the feeder, I am surpised at the wide range of species visiting here every time. This middle spotted woodpecker (Dendrocopos medius) was certainly a highlight. However, he did not make the move – and settled with the remainders fallen from the feeder
