Taken inside the Ballarat Times Office at Sovereign Hill, an award winning tourist attraction in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. In the mid 1800’s, the original Ballarat Times Office was the place to go for the latest news and gossip. Sovereign Hill’s Ballarat Times Office contains 19th century printing presses and you can watch the printer at work and have your name printed on an 1850s-style news poster. Sovereign Hill represents conditions on Ballarat’s early goldfields, where visitors can step back in time and experience Australia’s exciting goldrush days. Set on a former goldmining site, this well run outdoor museum recreates in fascinating detail the hustle and bustle of life in the 1850s. Staff and volunteers portray some of the behaviours and prejudices of the people of that time, and the Main Street is busy with people in colourful costumes and horse-drawn vehicles. Craftsmen are at work throughout the township, with a variety of shops and businesses open to purchase goods – grocers, candle maker, blacksmith and jewellers to name a few.
