I came across these ducks in the beautiful Himeji Japanese Gardens on south Terrace in Adelaide, South Australia. They looked so relaxed and happy and seemed to be at peace with the world, fitting right in with the surrounds of the beautiful gardens. Zen is a Japanese school of Mahayana Buddhism emphasizing the value of meditation and intuition rather than ritual worship or study of scriptures. I thought that Zen seemed to be the right word to describe them. The Himeji Gardens are Japanese gardens that blend two classic styles: the ‘senzui’ style that displays the beauty of lakes and mountains, and the ‘kare senzui’ style that uses rocks to evoke the presence of water and oceans. The Garden was established in 1985 in celebration of Adelaide’s sister city partnership with Himeji, Japan.
