Long before the days of tractors and air conditioned cabins, men ploughed their fields the hard way. This shot was taken on Churchill Island Heritage Farm, just off the coast of Phillip Island. It is an important place in the history of settlement in Victoria, as it is the site of the first European agricultural pursuits in the state and has been farmed since the 1850’s. In 1872 Churchill Island was purchased by Samuel Amoss, a former Mayor of Melbourne. The island is only 57 hectares and is now open to the public as an historic working farm.
