Yacht Reflection - Oil on Canvas

oil on canvas
80cm x 90cm
I have just come from the BAA awards night, and while I didn’t receive an award (even though I wore my lucky eiffel tower earrings!), this painting did seem to generate a lot of interest from the viewing public…there was at one stage, two men standing in front of it, pointing to this and that in the painting, a bit of wild gesticulation…my husband sidled over to eavesdrop…all positive. there was certainly someone in front of it at every point in the evening!

Odd how reflections reduce reality to twirly twiddles. To communicate the emotional gesture, the artist must first feel and understand it. Otherwise there is nothing of interest to trigger wonder. And art without wonder is merely craft, eh?

    Your dancing twiddles are… perfect.

  • ChristineBetts replied

oh thanks Ted! i much prefer twiddles to straight lines, don’t you;)

Great work Christine. It is tricky to capture the motion of water on a still page. This painting conveys both the impression of the water and the reflected light beautifully!

  • ChristineBetts replied 12 days ago

thanks so much for the kind and intelligent words.
