Bunny by Christina Pavlo

Bunny by

Soft pastel on canaletto; 100cm x 70cm.

When I created this work, I wanted it to look aesthetically beautiful, yet have a grotesque and shocking narrative. I was inspired by Mark Ryden in an interview I read in Flash Tattoo Magazine, who claimed that blood is the substance that keeps our existence alive, which I found to be a profound statement, as well as the beauty and strange subject matter present in his works, predominantly The Cloven Bunny which depicts a white bunny chopped in half.

The reactions to this work that I’ve received are divided: people either think it’s absolutely repulsive or cute and gory, and I love either reactions.
