I Feel Art - Spoken Word

I recently became interested in spoken word
But the way I wanted to read my poems was different than what I had heard
I’m not poetic enough to make it rhythimc or keep time
I read it like a conversation, except our conversation is a bit effusive and happens to rhyme
I want you to feel connected to me
Because we are all people and people should be treated equally
So I don’t want to awe you with long syllables or falsified skill
I just want to share what’s on my heart, I want to make spoken word feel real
I’m a comedian too, when people laugh it’s like music to me
The audience reactions remind me of beautiful poetry
But for a while, I felt like I didn’t stand a chance
I saw the comedians of today and realized I couldn’t partake in their
sex themed, bigot infused, unintelligent rants
Instead of running, I let my passion take center stage
I couldn’t back down, we need to laugh whole heartedly for a change
Through these struggles, I’ve started to see the true essence of art
Art is taking everything inside, ragardless of the reactions, and personifying it- Giving it a beating heart
Art is taking what the world calls beautiful and painting it a different face
Art is transcending the barriers of time and grasping the vastness of space
Art is not just two pears sketched into a bowl
Art is something that inspires us,
Art inhabits our souls
