I remember you being greater than any New York tower,
you’re courageous and tall
I remember you validating the girly things I loved, protective when I was small
I remember you leaving and how we all cried,
we should have kept you here or simply tried.
I remember video games becoming real,
war became something I could touch and feel.
I remember the news becoming a biography about you,
the dangers of Nationalism still hold true.
I remember them bragging about our hero in Iraq.
All I wanted wsa MY hero back.
I remember hearing that you had been wounded overseas,
there’s sure a lot of pain in staying free.
I remember our family slowly pulling apart,
maybe there’s a gravitational pull in that purple heart.
Now I see us all joining again,
You’re still my hero… You’ve always been.
