A dark and moody day was great for taking some shots of Poinsett Bridge in the upstate of South Carolina. It is the oldest bridge still standing in the state and was part of the toll road from Columbia to Saluda, NC. The gothic 14 foot arch is the focal point of the structure. The architect is supposedly Robert Mills who designed the Washington Monument in DC. The bridge is named after John Roberts Poinsett of poinsettia fame. He was the director of roads in South Carolina in the early 1800’s. He later was ambassador to Mexico. The bridge was completed in 1820. And…it is supposed to be haunted!!

Shot in the rain with Canon 7D, with Canon EF-S 10-22 at f13 for 1 second, ISO 160.
