This is one of my favorite shots that I have taken recently. I have become a big fan of Nick Brandt’s photography where he seems to combine fine art with wildlife photography(not that I claim that this is fine art). Do a search and check out his work. Even though Happy isn’t actual wildlife and this isn’t in sepia I think this shot was influenced by his work.

This is NOT a selective colored shot. Shot at Grayson Highlands State Park along the Appalachian Trail. Cold weather and strong winds along with the snow made for some dramatic photo opportunities.

Canon 7D, Canon 70-200 f2.8 shot at ISO 320 and f10.

Hi, my name is Chris Snyder and I reside in beautiful Western North Carolina, USA. I have been a swim coach since 1990 and have been selling my photography since 2006. My wife and I are avid mountain bikers and also are very involved in animal rescue. We always have a menagerie of some size and makeup. Most of my images are of nature whether wildlife or landscapes. I hope you enjoy.

Thanks for adding this to the APBT Lovers Group Chris! I thought this was selective coloring till I read what you wrote. Wow! It must have been really cold and snowy up there!

I really like this – it certainly looks very bleak and cold!

  • It was cold but I loved the dramatic conditions.

This works for me. That little colorful dog, Happy serves as such perfect counterpoint to the monochromatic wintry scenery.

  • Thanks so much. It was a trip to shoot the wild ponies and my favorite shot was this.
