Looking over the East River at downtown Manhattan on a gray and foggy evening. New York, New York, USA

Another Canon 5D MKII capture from the gray day on the Brooklyn waterfront shoot. In Photoshop I copied the top half and flipped vertically then reduced it’s height finally placing it over the bottom part where the water is. I copied the water to a black & white file and upped the contrast before saving it and using it as a displacement map for the flipped layer. I copied the water again and layered it over the flipped layer and reduced transparency. Next I upped saturation slightly on the buildings and used Topaz Star Efex to create the glow on the lights. Finally I added a gray texture file to add to the misty effect.

Photography has been an obsession since I was 13 years old and went off to Italy clutching my mother’s 1940s roll film camera. I’ve been fooling with computers since I bought an Amiga 1000 back in 1985. My first chunky pixelized images were digitized into that machine using a black and white CCTV camera. At last, with today’s software and hardware I feel that I can create the images I see in my mind’s eye. Visit my website at www.PixielatedPixels.com

Glad to see you about. Awesome capture!!!

  • I seem to have too many irons in the fire lately and can’t manage to get everywhere as often as I should plus I need to spend more time processing a huge backlog of images but I am alive and kicking and empire building as usual :-) I just created a new blog on NYC over here > http://pixielatedpixels.tumblr.com/ It’s called “An Englishman In New York” Yup I stole the title but it works! It will be growing daily as I add to it and I have tons of images waiting to get uploaded. Check it out if you’d like. Thanks JR, I appreciate your comment. Cheers

Hi Chris, Could you please say in your title or description what State this was taken in? Not everyone will know where “downtown” or “Manhattan” is in the world. I will check later to see if you have corrected this so it can be accepted into the group All About New York

  • OK, it’s done. and many thanks Pamela, cheers.
