The Supermarine Spitfire, Hero of the Battle of Britain by

The Supermarine Spitfire is a British single-seat fighter aircraft used by the Royal Air Force and many other Allied countries throughout the Second World War and on into the 1950s as a front line fighter and in secondary roles. It was produced in greater numbers than any other Allied fighter design and was the only Allied fighter in production throughout the war.

This vintage plane was shot at the Shoreham-by-Sea airshow in the UK during August 2011. I used a Canon 5D MKII with Canon EF70-200 f2.8L IS USM zoom and 2x teleconverter. Three other cloud and sky images were blended in along with a light texture in Photoshop. Topaz Remask and Adjust 5 were also used. ===2/8/2012 views 173 =

Photography has been an obsession since I was 13 years old and went off to Italy clutching my mother’s 1940s roll film camera. I’ve been fooling with computers since I bought an Amiga 1000 back in 1985. My first chunky pixelized images were digitized into that machine using a black and white CCTV camera. At last, with today’s software and hardware I feel that I can create the images I see in my mind’s eye. Visit my website at www.PixielatedPixels.com

Awesome capture and creation!! Love the history surrounding WWII.

  • My favorite plane of all time, never mind the modern jets an’ all. I just wish all these beautiful machines had not been built with the sole purpose of killing in mind! Will humankind ever learn? Oh well! Thanks very much, I am very pleased that you like it John, have yourself a wonderful new year, cheers.
