Driving into Downtown San Diego, California, USA

I used a huge number of little tricks here including changing the sky, stretching the image vertically and cropping off the bottom third. making a B&W version and fading it back into the original, running it through two Topaz plug-ins, putting back the color for the car, signs and trees, adding the helicopter and a couple of other things (trade secrets! :-))

Photography has been an obsession since I was 13 years old and went off to Italy clutching my mother’s 1940s roll film camera. I’ve been fooling with computers since I bought an Amiga 1000 back in 1985. My first chunky pixelized images were digitized into that machine using a black and white CCTV camera. At last, with today’s software and hardware I feel that I can create the images I see in my mind’s eye. Visit my website at www.PixielatedPixels.com

Awesome shot!! That red car really stands out. LOL

  • Hi John, I was overjoyed to find a footbridge over this multi-lane highway and even more so when I found the holes in the high fence on both sides of it providing great photo opportunities. Glad you like it it. Thanks very much for the nice comment. Cheers.

A great shot! The car really pops, and I love the helicopter in the shot, too. Congrats on your feature.

Nice. The HDR gives it a surreal, out-of-this-world feel, which is slightly unnerving considering how much a part of our daily lives (a city scene) is.

  • I used a huge number of little tricks here including changing the sky, stretching the image vertically and cropping off the bottom third. making a B&W version and fading it back into the original, running it through two Topaz plug-ins, putting back the color for the car, adding the helicopter and a couple of other things (trade secrets! :-)) but I’m afraid no HDR, :-) I am very happy you got the slightly unnerving surreal out of this world feel, that’s something I really wanted. I really appreciate hearing that it worked. Thanks very much indeed for the great comment and feedback. Cheers.

Sweet! I actually don’t know much about HDR (never done it, myself) but this had that extra-hyper sense of detail that I’ve come to associate with HDR images. I’m loving the increasing amount of work you put into it.
