Arundel Castle stands tall over the rooftops of the village while cows graze happily in the foreground

The seat of The Dukes of Norfolk and set in 40 acres of sweeping grounds and gardens, Arundel Castle has been open to visitors seasonally for nearly 200 years. It is one of the great treasure houses of England and is home to priceless works of art, furniture, tapestries, stained glass, china and clocks, sculpture and carving, heraldry and armor in stunning room settings. Set high on a hill in West Sussex, this great Castle commands the landscape with magnificent views across the South Downs and the River Arun. Built at the end of the 11th Century it has been the family home of the Dukes of Norfolk and their ancestors for over 900 years.

Photography has been an obsession since I was 13 years old and went off to Italy clutching my mother’s 1940s roll film camera. I’ve been fooling with computers since I bought an Amiga 1000 back in 1985. My first chunky pixelized images were digitized into that machine using a black and white CCTV camera. At last, with today’s software and hardware I feel that I can create the images I see in my mind’s eye. Visit my website at www.PixielatedPixels.com

This could very well be a scene from when the castle was first built. Awesome view!!

  • I expect all the buildings would have had thatched roofs back then, like 900 years ago, but pretty close yes. Couple more castle pics coming tomorrow! :-) Thanks for checking it out and leaving that nice comment. Cheers.

  • This image evolved over time. I originally took two images, one from the side with cows in the forground was an ugly view of the castle and #2 was the front of the castle but no field of cows. I didn’t quite like either of them so one day I opened up Photoshop and blended the front of one into the background of the other and the first version of this was born. That’s posted here too if you look. Then I felt it wasn’t the right shape fr greeting cards here and I also thought it would be fun to add a texture so this version was born. This one is my favorite. Thanks so much for liking it and commenting on it. Cheers.
