Australia as named by Pedro Fernandez de Quiros (1565-1615) – Portugese born explorer in the service of Spain who made important discoveries in the Pacific.
Quiros gave the name ‘Australia Del Espiritu Santo (Australia of the Spiritual Saint) to the Great Southern Continent…the nation of Australia today.
