Australia* as named by Pedro Fernandez de Quiros (1565-1615) – Portugese born explorer in the service of Spain who made important discoveries in the Pacific.

Quiros gave the name ‘Australia Del Espiritu Santo (Australia of the Spiritual Saint) to the Great Southern Continent…the nation of Australia today.

THE VALLEY OF MY SOUL

As I came down the mountain
Upon the steps of pure gold

The valley beyond
A sight to behold

The colour unending
Like the depths of my soul

Greens, reds and gold
‘Twas a valley to behold

Trees reached up
To skies of azure blue

Branches reached out
Like arms upheld to you

Nature was presenting itself
With such a wonderful scene
In the valley of my dream.
