Man’s Best Friend
© C J Lewis. Oils on stretched canvas 24”x 30” (61cm x 76cm)
BEST VIEWED LARGE
This is my depiction of the being of nature: man’s domination, in this case, over his dog, the rocks representing earth, looking down on the scene representing air, the blue ‘v’ shape with water running down it representing the uterus of woman who gives birth through the water’s of life, the dog & man both representing the fire of love through their existence and bond and if you look closely under his arm there is a slight depiction of the eye of Ra and a fish swimming up stream representing the spirit of the ALL.

Aloha & mahalo KJ … I’m still getting into the swing of painting faces as not done them before except as air-brush work on computer … have never done life drawing/anatomy so it’s a teach myself sort of effort … am glad you like the style … ‘cause I think I’m stuck with it …lol.

When God had finished naming all the animals
his little mate
whom had faithfully walked beside him the whole way
turned looked up with saddness
said to GOD
what is left for me
you are my soul
my partner through all that has come to past
it is only far
that you are me
in reverse

faces are the hardest thing for me…...that is where I am stuck on with Luna Park….
I am still laboring over it…......
may just make it a whimsical composition…........I have painted over it so many times the paint is so thick…....like leather now…........ha.
C J Lewis replied
lol … a good trick to get paint off if you want to remove it is to use mineral turps and a rag … then reprime that area and repaint … helps to stop reworked areas from being too thick. Faces are all to do with the shading/toning I have come to realise … I mix a little grey into whatever colour I am using for the face for the areas to be shaded to give the effect of say under the cheek bone then a lighter colour just above it to give the effect of fullness … although this fellow seems very grey he has skin tone glaze over the top … which shows up more on the original than this pic of it … persistence is all powerful as Calvin Coolidge (13th US President once said :)
kjgordon
many times the thickness is a good thing…..I never take th epaint off…...I can always start a new fabric or wood or anything I paint on…....
I understand about the shading but faces are just so frustrating to me…...
I will get it done….......

“what, you ask, was the beginning of it all?
And it is this …
Existence that multiplied itself for sheer delight of being
And plunged into numberless trillions of forms
So that it might
find itself
innumerably.”
