Almost there!
My final destination on the 15th of August 2009 was Crescent City in Northern California, and there was still enough time left to visit the Klamath River Mouth which is located 60 miles north of Eureka and 20 miles south of Crescent City off 101.

The Klamath River is the largest of the North Coast rivers of California stretching over 263 miles (400 km) from its mouth to the southern end of Lake Ewauna in southern Oregon, near the city of Klamath Falls. There is a large sandspit across the mouth of the Klamath river where it enters the Pacific Ocean. The sandspit shifts from time to time to accommodate the repositioning of the river’s mouth.

Klamath Rivermouth, where the river meets the sea near the town of Requa, CA is not only a fisherman’s paradise (salmon, steelhead, trout, redtail perch …) but also home to migrating gray whales, porpoises, black bears, deer, sea lions, otters, bald eagles, osprey and pelicans. It is well worth a visit.
