Kelso - Booming Dunes
Picturesque dunes against a sky of blue
Kelso Sand Dunes of the Mojave Desert are located in the Devil’s Playground area, 28 miles south of Baker, California.
They are considered ‘singing sand’ or ‘booming dunes’. When the sand is very dry and you cause a small avalanche, a low-frequency booming rumble can be felt and heard.
Stretching over 45 square miles (115 km²) from the salt flats of Soda Dry Lake, the dunes rise to the surprising height of 650 feet (200 m) above the valley floor. It is one of the largest dune complexes in the west.

Christine I am so amazed how much this looks like ocean waves tossed by wind and current. My mind is stuck in what it knows.
The formal elements of image construction are so well represented here it could be used as a teaching device in a class on compositional elements.
This fine art … photography to my way of thinking. The colors play just the right amount of complementary tension off each other to give the exact amount energy needed to create a profound sense of energetic stillness. There is counterpoint playing off each other everywhere at all levels in this image.
