This image was inspired by family legends of my grandfather who spent his life sailing the treacherous waters of Bass Strait, and of my grandmother, who waited and watched with hope … as it happened, she was first to go and my grandfather sailed on until he was well into his 80s … women still watch and wait, in hope, for their men who sail those treacherous seas, nothing really changes …

The storm

I have used a stock photograph by SXC.hu for the woman and the boat in these two images, which is something new for me – I’ve resisted using stock until now, but am amazed to discover a whole new world of creativity. The background photograph of the sea is my own, taken at Lorne, Victoria in 2007, with a Panasonic FZ20. Photographs edited and layered in Photoshop CS3.
