In our last great urge of effort
In our terminal desire
We will risk a raging torrent
Face a soul consuming fire
Grasp an agonising nettle
Bite a bullet flying wide
Put our fear of death behind us
And try what must be tried
For there is more to LIFE than living
More in ending than in death
More in being than existing
When we draw our own last breath
Sitting before my TV
In the quiet of my room
I watch a burning figure walking
Steady thru the gloom
He has no hope of living
No chance he can survive
He burns the last ounce of struggle
To be, to do, to strive
Yet as his fate consumes him
He blindly pushes on
His senses all confounded
All is done that could be done
I pray to God for mercy
For on my day when death is near
I pray to him for strength
That I can hold my fear
