Cupid presenting a Rose to a Butterflyby Chris-Hayes
oil paint on 20 × 16 inch oil paper.
‘’Cupid presenting a rose to a butterfly’’ was originally a sculpture by ANTOINE DENIS CHAUDET.
i love classical sculpture and loved this one so decided to do a painting of it. next im planning to do michelangelo’s statue of david….wish me luck!! :)
wowow!!!!! I almost rejected it, thinking it was a real statue and that it would not fit in our group,, this is amazing Chris,, really amazing..peace and love linmarie
oh wow such a nice comment :) really appreciated :)
Damn me but that is one fine piece of work. I admire your dedication to quality rather than quantity. You suffer for each piece, and it shows; so shines an honest work in a weary world, to paraphrase Willie Wonka. Seriously, well done, and thank you for contributing this to the RPG.
i think its all the drawing in sketch books and prep drawings for paintings that slow me down, also glazing is a slow technique. this is easily the best, and most genuine comment i’v gotten so thank you :) ha i’l need to remember that quote, i love wonka!! :D
The origin of this in English theater is attributed to William Shakespeare, The Merchant of Venice Act 5, Scene I “That light we see is burning in my hall. How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a naughty world.”

Here’s a link to the youtube video clip from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory where Gene Wilder delivers the line as “So shines a good deed in a weary world.”
