Brisbane, AUSTRALIA

Chona is an amalgamation of Chiaki (her real name is Charis) and Ona – who alternate as photographer and subject (and sometimes both at the same time) of these photos.

Chiaki will usually answer any queries – perhaps because she is the more talkative of the two (Or, Ona suggests, perhaps because she has more free time :P).

It’s a little difficult to explain why it is we do what we do – or even what we hope to accomplish. We’re both Ancient History Graduates – primarily Greek – big Sci-Fi followers (though, strangely enough, different spheres) and we love to dress up in outrageous outfits.

We’ve spent the last year travelling through various countries (Europe, Japan. Russia, the Middle East – all of which have amazing costume possibilities) and now that we have returned to Australia, we’ve decided to expand our closets to include a variety of costumes from both history and anything else that takes our fancy.

We try to learn a little more about photography every time we take photos – so hopefully there will be some improvement as we progress – though just to be clear, while Ona has some aspirations for a very distant future in costume design, Chiaki can really only say she is going along for the ride.

We have decided to make a gallery containing our best images here – we have a stock gallery under the name chonastock over at da (which people are more than welcome to use)

Our patterns relied solely on movie stills and a lot of bluffing. As you can see, we both ended up with quite different outfits! (the weaving was a nightmare – though Ona didn’t se…
