A stanger in my bedroom
A posting just for fun to share the antics of my night visitor. Please note … he is neither a stuffed toy or a superimposed shot!! He just invited himself in. Koalas are quite regular visitors to the trees in my Adelaide suburban area … but this was just a tetch pushy I thought!!

When was this??
chijude replied
This evening about 10.15pm Scratched at the window that looks into my office. Thought ChiChi had got locked out. Had long discussion with him/her on the balcony … time to grab camera and put ChiChi away … but left front door open …. and this is the result!!! Bathroom visit and then inspection of bedroom and lounge.!!!
Antanas
lovely shot
chijude replied
Thank you Antanas. It was a rather surprising visit!!!
MarianaEwa
This is the cutiest little thing. If only you could hear my noises now…LOL I love him. He looks so friendly.
chijude replied
Yes … but the claws are incredibly sharp … so not to be cuddled unfortunately …. it was a little like trying to herd cats to get him out again.!!!
Trudi's Images
haha how cute, what a lovely visitor to have !!
chijude replied
It was the visit to the “powder room” that really cracked me up!!
Thanks Trudi for your visit and comment. I thought for a while no one was going to notice him!!
robpixaday
so cool…...nothing like that here, just foxes and raccoons and deer and opossums and ground hogs and weasels…and if ANY of them ever came in the house I’d faint. Seriously.
Thank you so much for sharing this!!!!!
chijude replied
Robin I just had to … really took the shots to prove that the visit had actually taken place!! We have possums and foxes …. but then not those wonderful bandits (raccoons) or ground hogs or weasels.
I did not faint … but kept a wary eye on the claws as he was not at all worried about my presence.
robpixaday
It’s so interesting that he felt comfy inside, walked around, etc. Do they make noise? He looks like he might make a snurgley barking sound?
chijude replied
More like a ghastly ‘in pain’ kind of grunt. And quite loud. But he didnt … just made himself at home!!!
Kate Adams
LOL!! he is so adorable!!! – what a wonderful expression, he made himself quite at home at your place.
chijude replied
Absolutely, and he was quite reluctant to leave!! He/she was quite unflustered and unconcerned …. even with the flash of the camera. It was a time not to worry about settings ,.. I just relied on “auto”.
Wendi Donaldson
Holy Hannah!!!!! ...... I’m SO jealous! What a treat….glad he was friendly tho’. You must be very good to them. LOL
chijude replied
Exactly. I know I have told you about my night visitors ..,. but this was taking the idea of “visit” to the extreme. Thanks for the visit and hello Wendi!!
tkrosevear
Well if I was gonna have a night visitor, this would be my choice – what a cutie ;)
blessings Judy ♥
chijude replied
Tammy it was a bit of a circus … but yes very cute … provided you avoid the sharp claws!! Thanks for dropping in to comment!
Béla Török
Great capture, dear Jude…he/she is very cute indeed!
chijude replied
Cute Bela …. but not to cuddle Bela. Those claws are something to behold and to beware of!! Thank yoiu for checking out both images.
Karen Betts
LOL well im glad when i do not leave my front door open i do not get one of these, sometimes a neighbours cat. LOL Can just see you trying to herd it out and it clambering all over the place. great image.
chijude replied
If yoou have ever tried to herd a cat .. you will have a good idea. I was absolutely stunned when he took a right turn and into the light of my open doorway. Forltunately by that time ChiChi was safely out of the way.,
AndyGii
So glad you have a big brave dog to protect you. Definately one for the books. love it. I’ll let you know when I stop laughing
chijude replied
I will put one of the big brave dog up too… at least for a few days to tell the whole story. Andy it was a bit like a comic opera!! Thanks for responding.
Kathryn Potempski
How wonderful Judy, what a treat for all to see, thanks for sharing this wonderful moment.
chijude replied
Thanks Kathryn …. I can barely believe it myself.
Steve Scully
how cool is that?
chijude replied
Steve …. I was only mildly cool …. I think my eyebrows were almost up into my hairline I was so surprised!! The “unexpected” .... in a big way.
Richard Stanley
Wow – you are very fortunate to have such a visitor.
chijude replied
Richard … I often hear them in the nearby trees and sometimes in my garden … but this certainly was a more than unusually “close encounter”
Linda Bianic
first one i have seen thats not sleeping in a tree!!!!
wowzers!!!
chijude replied
Thanks Linda!!! But I do have a shot of him as he retired back to the tree (but still awake) I am hoping he does not return tonight. They make such a racket!!
nadine henley
wow, judy – you must have a wonderfully comfortable and inviting home! what a great capture. Maybe he knew there was a photographer on site and wanted his portrait done?? Did you have to call the ranger or did he amble out on his own accord? will check the other posts to see if you say
chijude replied
Nadine … I herded him out. It was quite funny because I inadvertantly had herded him in by conducting him along my balcony to stop him scratching at my window … only to have him duck in the front door. I just had to keep stepping back everynow and then as I thought he was going to run up my leg. Not to attack … but I wasnt taking any chances. I “worked it” just like sheep dog!!
Jan Timmons
You didn’t offer tea or a bit of dog kibble? This night visitor looks adorable, but I assume “wild” animals present some sort of possible threat? Great shot of life in the ‘burbs, Judy.
chijude replied
No Jan … seriously it would be the wrong thing to encourage such “personal visits” But the suburb I live in is called Wattle Park … so you can understand there are a lot of trees about … and the koalas are very active at this time of the year. The mating calls at night would, I promise, only attract another koala. They are quite ghastly sounding.
The personal “interior” in the bathroom is not, I assure you, a common event that I am aware of. (oops preposition) J
Lori Peters
Another precious koala. You are so lucky to have these very cute animals. Great picture. xoxo
chijude replied
Thanks Lori ... I thought he was going to disappear immediately after I evicted him from my lounge room, but he stuck around long enough for me to get a more formal portrait than the previous shots in the series. I think I will call the series The Koala Caper
chijude replied
And thank you for the favourtite too. That is kind.
kalaryder
Perhaps he wanted a soft bed for the night :)
great shot
chijude replied
May be … he certainly looked the place over …, and was looking to stay longer!! .... but I had the “no vacancy” sign ready to put up!!!
chijude
Meg Hart
What fun..!!...that is one cute visitor….and so cool!...(I believe they are often quite dozy from all that eucalyptus oil…his eyes do look a bit glazed lol..! )
chijude replied
That glazed look probably is more related to the use of the flash … but their eyes are not really their best feature at the best of times. Thanks for your visit.
Evita
♥ Aww… you’re so lucky !!!!! I envy you… great capture Judy !! :D ♥
chijude replied
A bit of a surprising visitor!!! Thanks Evita.
Liane Pinel
Herding cats!! lol…that just cracked me right up! I can well imagine! So fun…thanks for sharing with us!
chijude replied
Thanks for your enthusiastic response Liane. A favourite is special. And indeed I did have a special evening.
ps If you have ever tried to herd a cat you will know what I mean!!. I believe you ‘got the picture’ so to speak!!
Steve Buffington
And to me these guys are so exotic and you have one in your house! Outrageous! LOL. Nice shot and thanks for sharing.—Steve
chijude replied
To be honest Steve, I still have to pinch myself at the absolute audacity of this koala. But dont be fooled … I stayed well clear of those claws. I was in no way looking for a hug!!
Glad you enjoyed my shots of him/her?
Meeli Sonn
Did she came to your bedroom really. What a pleasant visitor. Gorgeous photo
chijude replied
Absolutely …. waltzed in …. if you consider that a koala can waltze. I had the front door ajar (foolishly) and was ttrying to usher him off along my balcony towards the overhanging trees. He simply took a sharp, and unexpected, right turn .... right through the door. He also visited my loo and lounge room. You would have thought he was doing a property appraisal.!! Thanks for your interest and favouriyte too Meeli Sonn.
Brandie1
A super capture.
How lucky are you.
All I get is bossy magpies, who will only leave when I have meat in my hand to bribe them out.lol.xx
chijude replied
It was a real treat!! And as for those magpies … well I have a soft spot for them. They are the emblem for my old football team Port Adelaide Magpies. We could not take that emblem with us into the National Competition. Collingwood were there first. Bother them!!!
Gaz Gazmajster
Brilliant! Have a nice evening,my friend.
chijude replied
It was rather surprising!! Thanks so much for the visit and favourite too Gaz.!!
Sharon Mau
He actually came into your home? I am so amazed. They are gentle creatures, yes? He is so adorable.
chijude replied
I was gently shoo- ing him along my balcony when he took a sharp right turn into my open front door!! Whoops!!
I certainly would not get close without protective covering against powerful claws. But ... I do not describe them as dangerous.
I live in a suburb in near the Adelaide foothills … and we have quite a few who visit our trees.
Thank you for your interest Sharon!!
Lisa Williams
What a fantastic photo! I have never heard of a koala being so tame, and I’m aussie! And he’s even smiling for you, that is brilliant!
chijude replied
Thanks for the visit and favourite Lisa. However rather than ‘tame’ I would say he/she was simply not afraid!! .. and curious!! I still marvel each time I look at the shots taken that evening.
Tainia Finlay
Oh Jude absolutely priceless!! He looks really big unless that stool is for a very small child ô¿ô
Great capture and I have so enjoyed reading all the comments too :)
chijude replied
He was quite a size. It was an hilarious evening. You might also enjoy When you got to go and on departure into the tree overhanging my balcony Wanted for questioning – still at large Thank you for joining in the Koala Caper story.
rodsfotos
How wonderful and so good that you got this fine image of it in your bedroom, just love it,
Regards, Rod.
chijude replied
Thanks for that Rod!! Ofcourse there is also the shot of him/her visiting my loo ….When you got to go you got to go and the final “pose” on departure Wanted for questioning – still at large
kkphoto1
Oh wow! This is just great, great capture! I don’t have any of these in my bedroom! Haha
chijude replied
It was indeed surreal!! He was the picture of health and confidence …. it really was like a pre-sale house inspection!!
(Thanks for the favourite too!!)
Bellavista2
Oh this is amazing! What a visitor to have!;=} Koalas I recall eventho they appear warm, fuzzy and cuddly and be quite temperamental and their claws are really sharp, they also have a gutral growl. So how did you get him out of the bedroom? Wonderful story photo:=}
chijude replied
It was not just the bedroom!!! He even popped into the loo!! And you are right with your understanding of koalas. They are not bears .,. do have awesome claws, make ghastly grunts/calls and do exactly what they like. I did not make the mistake of asking for a hug!! I “herded” him out … being careful not to corner him … but it took a good 15 mins of patience … but provided some great photo ops!! Thanks so much for your visit and fave. Reading comments on this particular Koala Caper has been great fun!!
Cheryl Lunde
This is so fabulous! Instant fave! How do you get him out?
chijude replied
Cheryl. Delighted with your commnent and fave. Getting him out!!! Well have you heard the expression … “it was like trying to herd cats” .... it was hilarious … because I could not get within claw range even though he/she did not appear to be aggressive. I acted a little like a sheep dog, but was careful not to corner him. So perhaps a very gentle “shooo shooo” would be the best way of you getting the picture!! I have had such fun reading all the comments!!
Marjorie Wallace
How fascinating. Sounds a bit like the Raccoons at my cousins. They can be quite tame, but watch out for the very sharp claws. Cannot help but wonder if someone has been treating him as if he were a pet. Did you think about maybe offering him a bisquit or a bit of bamboo? Of course you would not want to encourage him. Just love your story.
chijude replied
Hi Marjorie … Thanks so much for your commnenbt and visit and favourite too. It is “no” to the idea of pets … koalas reasonably commnon in our suburbs .,., and as they only eat a certain kind of gum leaf (which I dont have) it would be difficult to encourage them in any event. You are so right about those claws!! I was very very careful about not cornering him as I tried to “herd” him gently out.
And by the by … I just love Raccoons … because they look like bandits … cute bandits!!!

I would say it’s rather a compliment that he felt so safe and calm enough to walk into your house! lol…..he’s huge too! Beautiful animal. I LOVE our country! hugs
chijude replied 18 days ago
He was rather gorgeous!! ... and confident! Thanks
Tahnja for that lovely commnent.
