simplicity and attention to detail-not necessarily contradictions

It is first Thurday- art-opening time in San Francisco. I managed to hit a number of galleries tonight. Actually found 2 that were showing works by pencil artists. Very much enjoyed their work and saw a more simplistic approach to well rendered work. intricate and beautiful drawings with lot’s of empty space around them. Although one of the joys of my work is creating the backgrounds, it is also the most time consuming. Not sure if I need to let go of the backgrounds or make the drawings smaller. Either way, saw some very thought provoking and interesting work tonight.
Sometimes I feel like I need to find a way to produce more work. Is it as strong or complete if it is a simpler rendrering? It can be. just not sure if it would be seen as cutting corners. Guess I have to play with it and see how the end image makes me feel. Is it complete or not?
