Acrylic on canvas
This painting was the result of my obsessive compulsive nature that comes out from time to time. Where i could just sit and draw tiny little shapes for hours and days on end quite happily and i will find that so relaxing and tune out.
This canvas is actually very large nearly 2 meters square and i had just started to paint little squares overlapping each other and continued to do that for ages quite happily with no real intension of what i was aiming for .. just happy to keep going.
As by a lot of works that start in one direction and then completely turn on you i started to see all these overlapping squares remind me of the suburbs and how everyone lives on top of one another and that then lead me to represent this by mearly adding the power poles to the top when i had had enough of painting squares. It is a powerful piece for me because the pattern of the squares nearly makes you crosseyed and i know peoples reaction to it is always one of being able to relate to it.
as a final note on this one maybe i should be honest and say that probably 3/4 of the way through it i started to tire of the little squares and really had to struggle to finnish off the last ones! (i was working left to right so i HAD to keep going to see it through) needless to say this is a one and only!
