Currently my work is very much like a page in my diary. My work recently explores themes including frailty and rejuvenation, inspired by the birth of my daughter. My daughter was born with a rare kidney disease and one day she will need a kidney transplant. I explore the dichotomy that exists in organ transplantation; that life may only continue, in the death of another. New Zealand has very low numbers of organ donors, so my work “advertises” the need for donors.
I use brain meme theory to aid in the creation of my works. My work is created a number of ways including collage, painting, printmaking and drawing. I love to find vintage or anatomical images that interest me and use them in my work. Through the selection and arrangements of the images, re-combination’s utilizing whole or parts, I actively seek to create new symbols within an artwork, thus new meaning and ideas.
Before teaching for The Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online Division, I was an Assistant Professor at Georgia Southern University. There I specialized in teaching perspective and figure drawing. My experiences also include teaching in New Zealand and South Korea.
I have a Masters in Fine Art in Painting and Printmaking from Georgia Southern University and a Bachelor in Art Education from Waikato University in New Zealand.
