Thank you spring! by CheriesArt

Spring, for me, is a time when so many ‘magical’ things happen! The sights, sounds and smells of the earth awakening is overpowering and I cannot get enough of it!

It’s rejuvenating to go outside and just deep breathe the spring air. Especially in the early morning, when the birds are their chirpiest. I sit under the pine trees with my cup of coffee and just close my eyes and sit still and relax, enjoying absorbing all of this newly awakened life into my flesh and soul. Did you know that sitting under pine trees give you ‘stability’?

Now the rains come…ahhhh, so refreshing! Adding back moisture to the winter dried earth, this creates a smell that is like no other. The smell of fresh soil, of newly dampened soil, it’s intoxicating! I absolutely LOVE working in the yard while it’s raining!

Plants and sprouts are popping out of the ground now, it’s like a new ‘show’ to behold every morning. What new plant is this? I wonder what that is, what is that going to be? I walk around the yard and say, ‘Hello! Hello little one, a new day, a new life for you!’ It’s exciting for me to see living things that have shriveled up and disappeared for winter, now being born again, rising up to meet the sun and a new season!

And I love them all! There are no weeds in my realm. I don’t call plants ‘weeds’ or anything ‘negative’ because so many of the plants that grow around us are really very beneficial to us, in so many ways. Ways that we cannot even begin to imagine, we just have to study them.

Many of these ‘so called’ weeds are used in naturopathic and homeopathic therapies, botanical medicines. Nettles, dandelion (love this is my salad) and chickweed are just a few. My favorite ground cover, Crown Vetch, with fern like leaves and pretty pink flowers, is considered an invasive plant, is being used in cancer research.

Springtime always makes me want to create little faeries and strange little forest creatures, like magical elves, pixies and sprouts. I suddenly want to draw mushrooms and little mushroom cap houses and forest settings with winding brooks and streams.

I tend to get into that mystical kind of thinking at this time of year, and I don’t know why. It happens every spring, and every spring I think I’ll begin to draw my little faeries and creatures that are hidden deep within my imagination. Maybe, just maybe someday, my faeries and magical little creatures will all come true! I guess I will have to MAKE them come true, I will have to create them, to draw and paint them, then they will become alive!

Well, this makes me joyous! I’m happy that spring is upon us, that it brings a new life to so many plants, animals and to us! With new thoughts of creativity, of appreciation and a chance to share each other’s magical-mystical creations with each other…

…I thank you spring!
