I watched them argue
at the table, alcohol fuelled
and vicious.
Though tongues were slurred
the import was nonetheless
clear: the need to
wound the other greater
than the need for compassion
and mutual understanding.
Later, I saw her in the bathroom
redfaced and deadeyed
and I thanked whoever it was
that instilled it in me
not to settle.
Null and void
I watched them argue
at the table, alcohol fuelled
and vicious.

This is such a clean and sharp little bite sized morsel.
Stung my tongue in a wonderful way.
Always watching other couples at restaurants instead of listening to my date.

Wow, so powerful and sad. Thank God no settling – it gave me a bit of hope in all that sadness, that at least one person wouldn’t stay in that mess!

Oh, I got the t-shirt on that deal! Luckily, I ran and have spent the better part
of my life making up for it. Still, hate to see it though.
