- Hamlet
Raw, searing, lucid—
From across the boundless chasm traverses
Him who holds no sway nor offer
But the mysterious, unfathomable depths
Of a dark and lurking peace.
He surveys the wake of disappointment,
Lingers in the shadow of pain,
And saunters in the footsteps of despair.
To him belongs eternity.
The present stretches on in innumerable moments,
Yet what he provides is an end.
Closure, completeness,
Instant clarity in an infinite vacuum, totality—
For he pulls the corners of a vast and
Unforgiving universe into the palm of a hand.
He calls to his own, and comforts in an alien way:
With a dagger to the breast
And a release from all growing tension,
A numbing mildness, paradise found
Within the walls of so pleasant a dungeon.
