A thoroughbred and jockey fly past. I tried with this piece to capture the essence of the race and the horse—the smell of sweat, the movement, and the impression of sheer power in its musculature.

“Dance of the Horse and Rider” is revisited in The Work and the Glory. I wanted something with a little more emphasis on the horse’s movement and form.
Thank you, Kenton. I went to the races at Keeneland back in the spring (also see Released) and had already picked out my favorite shots. I was going through to discard unusable shots, and I almost threw this one out as a poor panning experiment. Thankfully, I decided to edit it and see what I could come up with.
