Song Birds

An illustration to accompany a story about how products such as coffee being mass produced in Latin America is killing American song birds due to the pestices they use.

I just uploaded a small file, I’ll upload a larger later, or let me know sooner is you want a specific print.

I assume this is ink and watercolour (you don’t say) ... there is a wonderful feeling of melancholia about this … I love it.

i really like how you took a story from the news and made a dreamy and haunting image out of it without making it look political or preachy. good work!

This is wonderful! For some reason, though, she reminds me a bit of the character Misa Amane from the Japanese manga Death Note.

    Hi Chelsea,
An evocative pose of what you see as what is wrong with the mass production of coffee.
As much as I enjoy coffee, I don’t drink very much nowadays.
If I did, it would have to be ‘Fairtrade’ coffee.

    PS: the word is ‘pesticides’.

great piece. really love the effect. i love the story behind it. i cant stand those latest mcdonalds ads that are running in oz. the spokesperson says that mcdonalds is great because it offers jobs in south america/central america growing coffee there. when it is actually destroying a lot of the amazon….. when they graze cattle.
