Elk Calf by Chris Heising

Currently unavailable for purchase

I found this Elk calf while hiking in the White Mountains in Alpine Arizona. The Elk was off the trail to the left and I barely noticed it’s ears move as we walked by. For the first two weeks the Elk calf is unable to feed with it’s mother so she will leave the calf occasionally to go feed. I stuck around for a while hoping to get a glimpse of the two together but unfortunately the wind was not working with me and she could smell us and refused to return until we left. Taken with a Canon 7D and Sigma 150-500mm OS lens.

Lovely close up of this Elk Calf, including wonderful balance of contrasts and color! : )

  • Thank you. I really wanted to move in and get the grass out of the way but I did not want to disturb the calf at all. Thanks again for the compliments!
