The Tech Stuff – Canon G11 (compact) – Wide-Angle Lens (6mm) – One Huge Out-door Light bolted to the roof-rack of the Yellow-Truck – Hand-made HDR layers done in Photoshop to get it all right and control some reflections – speaking of reflection, several reflector panels to control and reflect light from the big-honkin’-light on the support truck – a tip-o-the-hat to Photomatix Pro for some of the concept – and a chained Go-Go-Girl b/c the interns wanted one on this shoot (that’s why she’s not in the shot, she was busy disciplining the lads & lasses) – oh yeh – anna compass to reckon which way was West!
The Story – You know, Sunset is my time of day – that and more into the night-time. This phenomenon is likely due to getting a late start most days and ending up – after spending logistical time traveling and setting up – shooting in that Golden Hour around Sun-Down and on into the night ~:0)
Such is the case with this outstanding example of a Ford Rat-Rod Pick-Up Truck we shot up on the Blanco River on the edge of our beloved Texas Hill-Country. This Beastie is fab to say the least! Now I don’t care – much – about the engines in these things. I’m interested in the sculptural lines – vehicle as work of art – you could say. Hate to see one with the “hood” up (bonnet to U metrix users – just multiply by the circumference of the Sun and you’ll understand) – BUT – everyone always has a Big But don’t they (tip-O-the-hat-to Pee-Wee Herman) – But this Rod has a belt-driven – top-O-the-manifold – Full-Time – Super-Charger on some kind of big-ol’ V-8 engine that is some kind of Steam-Punk Machine or as close as U’ll get w/o additional piping, pressure-valves and additional rust.
One of my students didn’t think the truck had wheels – that the pick-up was sitting flat on the ground. But – NO – it’s a Low-Rider, Steam-Punk, Rat-Rod, Custom Ford P-U with Barbed-Wire trim and hydraulics to lift it up for driving – and drive it does – Like a Bat! – As well as lower it down ’til it’s sitting on the deck like some kind of Big Dog resting between runs.
Now THAT is a TRUCK! In My Humble Opinion, more of ‘em should look that way and I’m getting out and doing my part to promote these bewdies not to mention shopping for one of me own of these machines – – – In the meantime let’s get out there and make some more photographs and keep the adventures coming ~:0) VivaChas!
