The Slog-Hammer Technique – - – Canon G11 compact camera – Wide-Angle lens (6.375mm) – shot in RAW format – PhotoShocp for post production and layer-rangling – Photomatix Pro for a go – a rope to hold us in the seat, some blankets – a Moonglow CD – maybe an umbrella reflector or two ~:0)

The Madison Avenue View – - – Cadillac has long advertised itself as the symbol of motoring excellence. I’m not so sure that was completely true during some of those years. Many’s the Caddy that didn’t have sterling fit and finish. And this 59 Baddy Caddy though fab and camp at a distance is more of a rat ride that anything approaching excellence. ~:0)

But quality aside – this 59 Baddy Caddy is more fun to drive than most sports cars! Really! Imagine this – wafting over the air-waves is an orchestra gently playing “Moonglow” (it’s a love song). U’re riding in this big ole Caddy land yacht – sliding around on the massive bench seat – making control even more random and Ur best gal wants to park up at the lake. Or make that the country-club if U like. I mean there’s just no ride to compete with this air craft carrier of a car when it comes to drifting down the motorway for a special destination. ~:0)

Top’s down – massive fins following close behind – that’s hard to beat! The power steering on this great boat is so lush U begin to wonder if it’s really U driving the beast or it’s just taking U along to who knows where. But that’s not a bad thing! Really it’s not. B/c of the stupendous bench-seat U got Ur best girl under Ur arm. U’re driving with one or two fingers. And the band just keeps playing on Titanic-like as the 59 Baddy Caddy rolls on toward Overlook Point. Moon rise is waiting for the two of U and that big red Cadillac. How could it be any better? ~:0)

Well for one thing good brakes would be great – Ha! Back in the day – Cadillac had what were considered good brakes b/c the power booster on those gigantic drums could crush an iron bar! U haven’t lived until U’ve shackled down a half-million pound 1959 Caddy from 60 miles per hour down to about eleven amid thick smoke and screeching tires. In some cases those binders would flatten one side of all four tires from the skid. No kidding! Later a monster like this 59 Baddy Caddy would be driving down the turnpike with a thumpa-thumpa vibration from the flat-spots. That was really cool – must say! – Ha!

Point is I guess – there was and is no better car for dating than a big old 59 Baddy Caddy Convertible like this bewdy. Don’t know where U’re going. Don’t know where U been. But the experience is one U’ll never forget. After all – U know what they say about Cadillacs. ~:0) VivaChas!

Looks like the battery may be low! A great mood captured here Chas.

  • Thanks Paul – had “Moonglow” running through me head the whole time I worked on it. Still haven’t found an instrumentalist version of that great old standard that suits me – or a vocal version that’s soft and sultry enough to do anything but haunt the old cockles – Ha! This pix comes close but then again it’s not an audible tune ~:0) VivaChas!
