A little romance
In Venezia (Venice) we were most keen to explore the art of creating maschere (masks). So we bought books, took photos and explored many mask shops, talking to master craftsmen as they worked. Though a handful of shops actually made their own masks from clay sculpture, through to plaster mold, then paper mache, many of the shops simply hand painted and decorated pre made blank masks. We spent three hours at the post office, posting those blank masks back to Australia.
This is another sneak peek at some of the masks I painted and will be exhibiting throughout September and October 2008. It is a joint exhibition titled Carnevale and celebrates the time we spent in Venice.
For me what is special about the romance series is that the masks were from Venice but the painting was my own inspriation. I felt that using the crackle technique would give an old world feel and add to the magic of the masks.
We had a preview at home of both masks from Venice and ones I had hand painted. The romance series were the masks people mistakenly thought we had purchased as completed works in Venice.

Hello Sooz.
A friend, in the Netherlands has a hobby: making cards.
I help her, with her weblog.
This time, the theme was: Venetian Masks.
That reminded me of someone!! :)
