Romance
In Venezia (Venice) we were most keen to explore the art of creating maschere (masks). So we bought books, took photos and explored many mask shops, talking to master craftsmen as they worked. Though a handful of shops actually made their own masks from clay sculpture, through to plaster mold, then paper mache, many of the shops simply hand painted and decorated pre made blank masks. We spent three hours at the post office, posting those blank masks back to Australia.
This is a sneak peek at some of the masks I painted and will be exhibiting throughout September and October 2008. The exhibition will take place in the art space at a coffee shop in Cherrybrook.
