A period of drought baked this shallow pond on Point Breeze into a pattern of water streets and mud huts—imagining an African coastline village that had flooded. I was intrigued by the burnt sienna reflection of the sun on the sides of each form. Creatures died here, but others survived underneath, revived by the rain that eventually arrived.
