The storm was raging, the hail hit hard
Huge trees uprooted, falling on houses and in yards
The winds were roaring fast and straight
We lost part of our pool, the shed roof is our neighbor’s now
It hit through many areas of Alabama
Extensive damage was all around
But the worst part, the very worst part
Was… Well being the great multi-tasker that I am
I had homemade chili simmering on the stove,
Watching a recording of Criminal Minds on TV
My Fuji Camera was hooked to my laptop loading
The pictures from the day before,
My LG Intuition in hand, on RedBubble site
Reading a recent poem by my buddy JR
And life as I knew it came to a stand still…
I kid you not, I tell you no lie, it all happened at the very same time:
The power went off, the phone lines went dead, and all cell service was lost.
I looked at my dogs as a chill crawled my spine for my first thought was
“Oh, God, the Rapture has come and I’ve been left behind.”
Oh Lord what did I do wrong and then as if an answer from Him
My precious sweet Preacherman son got a text through,
Asking if I was alright. Boy, you talk about a sigh of relief!
But I couldn’t call, could only get a text out once out of ten tries
Evening came lanterns and candles were all I had.
I had just sent boxes of magazines and books to a Nursing Home
Cause I read all of mine on Nook now. Yeah right. No Wifi available.
I was quickly going out of my mind.
My husband was on his way home, sandwiches would have to do.
But Alabama Power better get something going, tonight is
The premier of the new season of Dancing With the Stars.
Hubby came home, the news was bad, no power before tomorrow night,
No landlines for a week. My life is put on hold. I looked at him,
Wondering if he could see the glistening of tears by the flicker of
The lantern light? I can’t stand it I told him, I’m so bored, there’s
Absolutely nothing we can do in the dark with just a little candle
And lantern light. He smiled and said, “I’ve got some ideas.”
It turned out to be a lot of flirty fun by the flickering lantern light.
