The Art Nun In Me Preaches

The Art Nun In Me Preaches belongs to the following groups:

All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical

Art is Communication. Thought made into something real. Art is an outcome of many things; thoughts, philosophies, experiences, expectations, workings, responses…. etc. It then becomes an indicator, a point showing where the lines of influence and meaning to the artist have come together. A visual expression of a thought process, a visual comment.

To like a piece of art, I am agreeing with something about it. I have made a connection with it and I will probably share some similarities in someway with the artist who made it.

By saying that a piece of art isn’t art, I’m saying that I don’t understand it and I don’t like understanding things in general. It’s fine not to like some art. But as long as no one is harmed in the creation of that piece of art, it is still art. It just doesn’t say anything to me. However it might have profound meaning and bear some kind of influence to someone else.

If a piece of art is enjoyed by lots of people, this means that the artist has revealed something in the clearest most easily understood way. That’s my definition of popular art.

But that isn’t an easy thing to do. work on your skills this builds up your confidence and helps to point you in the right direction to take your work. You must be mindful and understand what you are doing. You must find the right kind of materials that you work with the best. For all you know Monet could have been absolutley rubbish at Metalwork.

You have to base your work on the thoughts that you always go back to. Your strongest feelings. Keep your work personal and it will always be origional.

I won’t be put off by sneery cynical people that look at me like I’m a Martion for expressing my true thoughts and bing an artist. People like that are scared by the idea of changing and evolving. They will also probably have some very nasty art hung badly over their fireplace.

“The art object is residual to culture… Museums, dealers and collectors make art into something precious and expensive” – Linda Nochlin
