Separation Anxiety No. 3 by

My artwork is based on personal childhood experience, exploring the concept of divorce and separation. It depicts the emotions associated with divorce and separation and the negative impact it has on a child. My technique of layering of washes and colleges adds to the idea of the gamut of emotions. I have used oil sticks, charcoal, progresso and chalks, working heavily with them in areas of my work. Where as I have left other areas open and unfinished to emphasize the rawness of emotions. I have been strongly influenced by Cherry Hood and this reflects in areas of my art making practice.

This is a really powerful piece. I love the conjuntion of technical/realistic painting with those abstract textures and markings. Its like I can feel what’s in that boy’s head.
