My artwork is based on personal childhood experience, exploring the concept of divorce and separation. It depicts the emotions associated with divorce and separation and the negative impact it has on a child. My technique of layering of washes and colleges adds to the idea of the gamut of emotions. I have used oil sticks, charcoal, progresso and chalks, working heavily with them in areas of my work. Where as I have left other areas open and unfinished to emphasize the rawness of emotions. I have been strongly influenced by Cherry Hood and this reflects in areas of my art making practice.

Separation Anxiety No. 1 belongs to the following groups:

Yep I just joined your fan club! Congratulations Chantal on winning the Emotion Challenge – this is a fantastic piece, brilliantly expressing the raw emotion of separation. Your use of colour and line is such a strong component enhancing the feel of the work. What a wonderful thing that we are able to take life’s cruelest and hardest blows and turn them ito something beautiful if only we try. Well done.
