Where the hell could it be? He had seen it fall, why wasn’t it right there?
Cursing out loud, Charlie lifted bits of dead Pine wood and dry bark, throwing them about with fearful frustration. If he didn’t find it soon, he would have no choice but to leave without it.
He should have tidied the woodshed last weekend like he said he was going to. Then the floor would be clear and he wouldn’t be searching like a crazy man right now.
He was starting to feel queasy, and light-headed, was it the shock? He wasn’t sure, but he needed to go.
Charlie threw the axe down hitting a pinecone, as it did it turned, and there it was, tucked in the pinecone’s open sleeve.
Relieved, he bent down picked up his finger and placed it in his pocket.
He then went inside to phone for an Ambulance.
