Dear Redbubblers and in particular members of the mixed Media group,
I have been selected by StacyLee, Moderator/leader, turn about, along with Andrew Nanroski, Hahpistuff and Zoe trap to write articles that feature Artists from the Mixed Media group I don’t intend to judge their art work as I am against any judging of any art works, How ever this does not mean you can not have an opinion about art or art pieces. What I intend to do is concentrate on the artist themselves. Attempt to get an insight to their passion for art and world issues. As these articles deal with mixed mediums I have chosen to find art works that are more hands on in the physical sense and not so much the photo Shop generated works of art. Its not that I have any thing against Photo Shop art, I do it myself as well as hands on stuff. In the Mixed Media group there is a lot of art that has been photographed, both digitally and analog (old world film). Loaded into photo Shop and then digitally altered or added to then labelled mixed medium. There is nothing wrong with this, I once again, do this myself, how ever because there is so much of this type of art, I have chosen to select an artist that creates mostly hands on mixed medium art in the physical form of 2d and 3D art with two or more mediums to achieve the finished result. So I will now introduce you Redbubblers to fellow Redbubbler Shaida Parveen
Shaida’s Redbubble’s profile is quite comprehensive so I will start this feature with Shaida’s own thoughts on her art and life’s passions.
CONTEMPORARY ASIAN & ISLAMIC ARTIST
“Born in Pakistan, brought up in England, I love both these countries, one is back from my roots the other is my home. I knew from a very young age the intense passion I had for art, from my creative abilities. I attended art colleges to universities just to add those extra techniques to my talent. I finished with a graphic design degree as to make myself commercial with a earning, but then truly realised that money did not really mean everything to me. IF I COULD NOT FOLLOW MY HEART AND SOUL PURPOSE IN LIFE, what was the point of doing something just for a good income.
I did however enjoy my career as a graphic designer and have no regrets. The good of it was, it prepared me for all the things that I need to do as a successful artist today, the bad for me was, I did not enjoy the intense computer work that went with it and the little creative freedom that went with it, due to deadlines. I soon CHOSE TO FREE MY SPIRITS and creative mind by travelling around the world , just to capture all the true beauty , the colours, culture and life of every thing around the globe, that I could inject later on, into my art work
Travelling around the world made me appreciate who I am and what I have and how fortunate I truly am than others. My goal in life now is, as an artist to think about others, share my talent and use my talent to make a difference to those lives who don’t even have water to quench their thirst, never mind have any kind of opportunity to show any of their hidden talents. SO I BELIEVE I AM HERE ON THIS EARTH FOR A PURPOSE.A purpose to make a difference. I want to pour all of my energy into what I love and have a huge goal and purpose behind being an artist. I intend to raise funds through my art work to get fully functioning water taps to all the poor countries where needed, they have water pipes under ground, but no money to get taps connected, that would give them a constant supply of fresh drinking water.
Without water in this world, nothing would survive, not man, not nature, not land. I feel for those who haven’t even got the simplest things in life. Things survive just a little longer with out food, but without water, what is there left, nothing, I have the talents of my hands, so I am going to use it with love to help others, then I am a truly happy artist with a soulful purpose in life.”
Shaida’s work is very much hands on mixed medium, her work is vibrant and her choices of colours that she uses in her art reflect the warm loving and caring passion that is Shaida.
I did a short interview with Shaida via our wonderful bubble/mail. This will add to Shaida’s own words and hopefully give a bit more insight into Shaida’s art.
CHAMO >> Most of your work seems to be created with mixed mediums, why is this so?
SHAIDA >>Most of my work is created with mixed media, as I found too many things that fascinate me, my creative head just starts to whirl into all kinds of emotions, feelings, thoughts, passion, deep thoughts, that I pour out into my art. I could not possibly say all I want to in one painting, and even though I can do a amazing portrait I soon lose interest of sticking to one subject, so I end up expressing in small pieces formed by doing mixed media, then I eventually turn the mixed media sections into one whole piece of art, forming a complete expression.
CHAMO >> Your work has strong colour use mostly through the reds, maroons and simular hues, have you a passion for these shades of colours?
Shaida >> I do have a strong passion for these colours, light colours mean, floaty light feelings to me, the darker colours that I use mean intense feelings, intense emotions, the real deepness to every thing in life, to me LIFE IS ABOUT REALITY, real drama, real issues, real concerns, this is what deep feelings are about. If I ever did light colours, that would have been that one day out of my childhood time, which I did a few art pieces with light colours only because I wanted to sit and daydream on clouds and at that time wondering how nice life would be with no issues or problems and staying up in the fluffy clouds ……….so I also think they kind of reflect my own character to who I am, a intense, passionate, deep loving mystical charming soul.
CHAMO >>You use a lot of texture in your art strongly influenced by fabrics, would you agree with this?
Shaida >>Yes I do, I am a very curious artist and always have been, I find textures interesting. I am forever mixing up stuff, whether its fabrics, different art mediums just to see what happens. Also as a child my mother used to sew all my clothes, so from there I got fascinated with fabrics, patterns and textures.
CHAMO >>Even though your home is in the UK your work seems to be heavily influenced by your Pakistan background, would you agree with this?
Shaida >> I would not say I am heavily influenced from my background, or from my roots. I almost live the British life style. But since my background is from Pakistan and also the fact I was born there, I cannot help but to bring back certain and part elements from my backgrounds into my life styles such as fabrics. I wear beautiful tailored made shalwaar and kameezs with rich embroideries and satin and silk patterned materials and shawls and also most of the colours remind me of back home, the spice colours. So some how I have managed to combine living in the UK and my Pakistan background into one through my art in the form of mainly mixed media
CHAMO >>In the more traditional mediums such as Oils, water colours etc What would be your favourite to dabble in?
Shaida >> Traditional art materials I mainly dabble with acrylics, only because there quick drying as I just can not wait to get going with something else on the canvas. But I love and absolutely love dabbling with oil paints, as there rich, you can do so much with oil paints, like mixing them and building them, in the end you get a deeper and deeper look the more you do with them.
Shaida finished the interview by expression her thanks to me for selecting her to be featured, she was feeling a bit daunted by the amount of wonderful Photo Shop art in the mixed media group and was relieved that her hands on art was still appreciated by her fellow artists here in the mixed media group. So please visit Shaida’s space here on Redbubble to check out her wonderful art.
Hope to catch the attention of you Redbubblers again soon
