The Installation of One's PC

So I have the new baby, all built and working (for now).

I’ve been wrestling to no end with software updates, patches, drivers, codecs and windows updates. This is becoming very frustrating. I’ve tried installing one of my favourite games, onyl to find it botched its own installation, it didn’t install some things and screwed with the others, it didnt even install its own uninstaller…

... so to get rid of it I had to take my computer back to last night’s restore point. Yay. Now im a few hours down on all the drivers and software I installed, a few wasted hours of sleep and a ropable attitude that has me snapping at everyone.

This was supposed to be a joyous and momentous occasion, it was all supposed to go really well, I was supposed to be inseparable from it, I was supposed to be happy playing all my games again.

Instead its a hard slog chasing cracked versions of direct x, video card updated drivers, updated media players whilst dodging WGA. All this stupid effort tells me I should’ve spent the extra cash and bought a real copy of windows. I’ve not had a good week with IT thus far, im getting moody.

I just want a computer that works, I just want to vegetate infront of it in the afternoons and not have to worry if my latest update of blah will kick me off the internet or not. This was supposed to be digital bliss.

It’s not.

The only sweetner to the deal is that Lightroom works like a dream. But thats about all I can do right now.

THIS is why I gave up being an IT manager. I prefer the simpler (luddite) life … except for RB.

You were expecting a new computer setup to go easy???

Has that EVER happened to you?

Hope it’s all going well :)

  • Mel Sinclair replied

Okay so its been hard, but I got one easy reward today:
I plugged in my new, second LCD monitor and its beautiful… its just stunning. Its the one thing that’s worked.

    Lets hope the rest works

Dodging WGA? Why dodge it when you can fool it instead?
My desktop thinks both it’s XP and Vista installs are genuine, when in reality neither really are.

Or just bung Linux on and forget MS retardedness forever.
