I found myself trying to figure out just how big a werewolf, or Wolven, would be today, based on a few of my characters.
The movies (hah!) show us that werewolves run bigger than their human alteregos, but my question was, how much bigger?
I probably could have Googled for an answer, lol, but I decided to work it out for myself.
Okay, taking three characters: Shady, Wolfe, and Bob…yeah, I know, a werewolf named Bob. Go ahead, admire my creativity, lol.
Human weight and sizes:
Shady 5’9 130lbs
Wolfe 6’2 260lbs
Bob 6’7 300lbs (yeah, he’s a big’un, all right)
In full wolf shape, they keep their human weight…I’m still working on a height formula for them on that one. I tried out 1/2 their human height, but I need to do some measuring out at the barn on my friend’s dogs to see how that would look, lol.
Okay, for Wolven (or werewolf) form, I went with 2 1/2 times human body mass, and 1 1/3 times human height, so came out with the below as my figures:
Shady 7’7 325lbs
Wolfe 8’3 670lbs
Bob 8’8 750lbs
I guess my question is…how’d you like seeing an 8’8, 750 lb, dark red werewolf heading your way? Impressive enough?
I’m up to over 15,000 words on book three of the Huntress series, and I’m very glad I wasn’t done with the second one, because some things came up that need to be mentioned in it to make them flow into each other nicely.
So, they’re probably going to end up being finished about the same time. Past Shadows will come along after them, and explain some of that stuff more clearly.
I had an ephinany (did I spell that right?) about Shady’s aversion to packs. I don’t know how I missed it before, but I know the whole background story there now. Yay, me. Not so yay for her.
And it plays a HUGE part in what goes on between her and Wolfe, too, so yeah, it was a good thing it popped up, or a lot of that stuff might not have made so much sense.
In other news, I did add another bit to Whispers, I’m still trying to edit the next installments of Code Walker and Tales from After. Riley’s eating Chinese food at the moment, and Jazz is still skywatching, though Dale had a momentary freakout over something no one thought of.
Connie and the rest are being quiet for the moment…I’m not entirely sure Selwyn and Bleddyn weren’t invaded by the whole group for some griffin hunting. Hm…werewolves hunting griffins….I maybe should check up on those guys. They could make griffins an endangered species for Faedriae. I’ll send Nyx after them, if I can pry her off of Zane. Those two… (shaking head)
Oh, I mean my other werewolves, by the way. Not Wolven Ferals, and not wolfkin ones. The regular sort…that’s Darkness and his pack.
I think I may have a short story for Lucien (he’s the where the hell did the vampire come from vampire in Rising Moon). Does everyone’s vampires do that? Just pop up out of the blue? There wasn’t supposed to be a vampire in that one, and now he’s like a supporting/main-ish character. Anyway…short story…possible. It’s simmering on the backburner, needs a few more spices to bring it all together.
I have noticed there’s more sex going on as the Huntress series progresses. However, unlike certain other supernatural heroine types I could name (cough, cough, Anita Blake, Merry Gentry), we’re not going the route of having a male harem for Ms. Shady. Nosirree, Bob.
Sorry ‘bout that, Bob. =)
So, quick sum up…I think Code Walker may just be finished up in the next month. Whispers is going to be a long one, there’s a lot of ground to cover in it. I’m not sure about Tales from After, I have some stuff that needs to be thought about for it. Rising Moon and the unnamed third book are moving along nicely, but still looking at a month or two before they’re ready to go.
All assuming I don’t suddenly, oh, look, a kitty…..

Hehehe…..it’s all grist for the mill all that wandering off ;) Gotta go with the flow and it will all come back out through your writing. Love your stories Gayla, and they are worth waiting for.

There’s just so many shiny ideas to look at, right? =)
Thank you!

so many distractions too

That’s it, exactly! Going with the flow…book three, I had like three paragraphs written, and then late Sunday night, I had the whole story outline and HAD to sit down and start writing before it got away from me, lol.
Thanks! =)

stop teasing about Dale – feels like I’ve been waiting weeks to catch up with them.
It’s not so much the vampires that just appear – although there is Kham – as the Fey. Now I’m playing the name game again because i know Jacques-Louis is an alias… think blond corsair type very cranky because he can’t get drunk on mortal alcohol and he’s stuck in this dai shun dimension.

Sounds sexy! =)
Oh, there’s some elfage going on in book three. I’ll have to come up with some names as they appear. I know Shady’s had a run in with one that was out slumming at a club, and tried to pick her up. She broke his nose, lol.
Dale is actually pretty happy at the moment :giggle: now that his brief freakout is settled. The possibility of non-weasel nookie is looming. =)
